Trisomy 21 Online Community

We are a group of friends who have come together because we share the common bond of caring for someone who has Trisomy 21. We are here to share therapy tips, medical issues, laughs, accomplishments and yes, even frustrations. We embrace what Trisomy 21 has brought into our lives. We feel that it has taught us to appreciate the true meaning of life. We count our children as blessings! We will fiercely protect them and fight for their lives to be valued just as all other peoples' are. We share our pictures, our stories and our hearts here not only to provide friendship and support for each other, but also in the hopes that others will open their minds and their hearts to our unique children and, in turn, make a better world for everyone.

Leisure Activity Resources

  • Kindermusik - Lethbridge
    Contact: Kerry Minchin
    E-mail: hafdraft@telusplanet.net
    Phone: (403) 549-2277
Kindermusik Webpage: http://kindermusik.com (note this is a general Kindermusik site and not specifically for just Kerry's classes)
Profile: Kindermusik is an international music and movement program for young children and their parents.  Kindermusik has programs for children aged newborn to 7 years old.  Kindermusik programs are run by teachers but the program itself is based on child development research and encourages growth of the total child including cognitive, physical, social, emotional and language skills.
Testimonial: Kerry not only welcomed Mikey into the class but she went out of her way to celebrate his individuality.  In the years that we went to Kerry's class, she made an effort to learn sign language and use it during the classes with both Mikey and other children.  She also did extra research and reading in the area of music and people with Trisomy 21 and would often hand me articles at the end of class about this topic.  Kerry also did some work with the public school system in Lethbridge doing some one-on-one music therapy with an elementary aged child who has Trisomy 21.   I was thrilled with the Kindermusik experience we had and feel that part of the reason was because there was such a great teacher for the program.

Testimonial: We worked with a development worker coordinator from when Mikey first came to live with me (7 months old) through to when he started with the school system (3 years, 8 months).  She came out to our house to work with Mikey every second week for approximately one hour.  As well, she co-ordinated all the other services that we through CHADS (ST, PT, OT).  The team that met to discuss the children in services included all therapists as well as the pediatrician that Mikey sees (Dr. Hak).  When we transitioned in to school this team met with his new school team and provided a very smooth transition.  We continue to work with CHADS for therapy assessments as well as summer groups.  This past summer, Mikey attended a sensory integration playgroup put together by the OTs that work for CHADS.  The strength of this program is the coordination of all those who are involved with a child's development.
